History of Sailing at the Olympics

The first sailing competition at the Olympics was held in Piraeus, Greece, in 1896. Ten boats competed in the Open class, and the winner was Paul Elvstrøm of Denmark. Elvstrøm went on to win four more gold medals in sailing at the Olympics, making him the most successful sailor in Olympic history.
